The Cosmic Physical Plane encompasses all that individual human consciousness is capable of understanding. It is composed of all seven planes that govern the human experience. These seven planes are:
(1) The dense physical, plus the etheric planes
(2) The astral plane
(3) The plane of the mind
These are the three words of form
In addition to this the Cosmic Physical Plane is composed of three formless worlds, which are:
(4) The Buddhic plane
(5) The atmic
(6) The monadic
(7) The divine space
To get an idea of how far we are from transcending the Cosmic Physical to the Cosmic Astral consider that the consciousness of the average human only stretches up to the astral, or the second sub plane of the Cosmic Physical Plane.
Einstein¹s mind probably only stretched to the fourth plane of Buddha.
The Christ himself, as an individual, reached in consciousness to the sixth plane of the monad and only sensed higher than that though a union with other minds to perceive through a supermind with the help of a molecular relationship.
Esoteric students often wonder what a cosmic astral or mental words could even be as nothing concrete is given out on these higher spheres.
All we can speculate on is that they are a part of a greater universe. Maybe we are only an atom of a pimple on someone¹s nose in some super universe, they think.
I submit that this is looking the wrong direction. This is only thinking in the direction of a great cosmic physical. To reach the greater cosmic worlds one has to travel there in consciousness and not through space. Only by the Gathering of Lights and uniting as greater lives can the higher cosmic spheres be seen.
Some ask, why we should even contemplate a thing that is beyond our understanding.
The answer is simple. We must always contemplate things beyond our reach if we want to extend our reach. If we only seek that which is easily understood then our progression will come to a standstill.
Ruth writes:
It seems to me, that as humans, we have a dense physical body/plane, which is not recognized as a real Principle, so the Cosmic Physical body/plane would be the lowest dense body/plane of the cosmic substance of the Seven Heavenly Men or that One Cosmic Entity that we live within.
Perhaps it goes something like this, if I was a cell in one of the Sacred Planet's body, under the Seven Heavenly Men, then for me as that cell I would exist as a dense physical cell/atom under the fourth plane but inside that Heavenly Man and existing at its lowest level through it's Cosmic Physical Plane.
A Treatise on Cosmic Fire - Section One - Division C - The Etheric Body and Prana
"It is to be observed that just as in man the dense physical body in its three grades - dense, liquid and gaseous - is not recognized as a principle, so in the cosmic sense the physical (dense) astral (liquid) and mental (gaseous) levels are likewise regarded as non-existing, and the solar system has its location on the fourth ether. The seven sacred planets are composed of matter of this fourth ether, and the seven Heavenly Men, whose bodies they are, function normally on the fourth plane of the system, the buddhic or the fourth cosmic ether. When man has attained the consciousness of the buddhic plane, he has raised his consciousness to that of the Heavenly Man in whose body he is a cell. This is achieved at the fourth Initiation, the liberating initiation. At the fifth Initiation he ascends with the Heavenly Man on to the fifth plane (from the human standpoint), the atmic, and at the sixth he has dominated the second cosmic ether and has monadic consciousness and continuity of function. At the seventh Initiation he dominates the entire sphere of matter contained in the lowest cosmic plane, escapes from all etheric contact, and functions on the cosmic astral plane.
The past solar system saw the surmounting of the three lowest cosmic physical planes viewed from the matter standpoint and the coordination of the dense threefold physical form in which all life is found, dense matter, liquid matter, gaseous matter. A correspondence may be seen here in the work achieved in the first three root-races. 56, 57 [122]
Three other planes are the goal now, - the buddhic, atmic and monadic, each time three planes and their eventual synthesis. In the future solar system the cosmic physical atomic ether (the plane of Adi in the system now) will be the starting point and the three planes to be dominated will be the three lowest cosmic astral planes. Man starts in where he leaves off, with cosmic physical matter perfected. His lowest body, therefore, will be the monadic or the body of the second cosmic ether. This will not be then counted as a principle any more than the threefold lower physical body of present day man is recognized as a principle.
The present solar system will see the surmounting of the three next cosmic physical planes, the fourth, third, and the second aethers, and the coordination of the cosmic etheric body."

From the Encyclopedic Theosophical Glossary:
"Physical, Physicalization The physical plane of matter is that one of the many planes in universal nature which is coordinated with our physical senses; and the physical plane of consciousness is therefore the plane on which our consciousness functions when we are using those senses. It is characterized by the familiar qualities which science studies under the name of properties of matter. In order to understand biological evolution, it is necessary to admit the existence of the next plane above -- the astral plane. The passage of the astral prototypes of organisms from the astral plane to the physical is called physicalization. Differentiation on the physical plane is caused by the psychological and astral life-agents acting in the protyle of the physical plane. Temporary and abnormal physicalization takes place in a spiritualistic materialization. "
"Plane Used figuratively for "the range or extent of some state of consciousness, or of the perceptive power of a particular set of senses, or the action of a particular force, or the state of matter corresponding to any of the above" (TG 255). Though the cosmic planes are different from one another, they are not separated by gaps, just as the spectral colors are distinct and characteristic yet merge imperceptibly into each other. Nor can it be supposed that at all stages of evolution the scheme of planes was the same as now: we hear of a physico-astral stage of humanity and of other beings which now no longer exist on earth, in much the same way as we find the fossils of types intermediate between existing types but now extinct."
"To understand the cosmic physical and astral we must use the Law of Correspondences and first look at the physical and astral in which we live.
In each atom then we have very tiny points circled by even smaller points. Even though each atom has vast regions of space, the points in motion give the illusion that the atom is a solid ball.
These atoms which are empty space with vibrating points do seem extremely vacuous when seen through scientific eyes, but on a higher level the solar system repeats this proportion making the idea of empty space even more amazing.
So when we go outside and look up at the sky we are seeing what the ancient wisdom calls the dense physical. But the interesting thing is this dense physical is not very dense.
The second thing to note is that this dense physical we see represents the visible part of the seven planes which we are discussing.
The total of these seven planes composes the cosmic physical.
So where is the cosmic astral?
To find it we must again look upward at the night sky. The points of light we call stars represent the forms that come out of the six lower planes. The space around them represents the highest plane we call the divine, the Adi.
Space and the dots of matter it contains (and their emanating forces)represents the whole of the cosmic physical plane.
To go beyond the cosmic physical in consciousness we must realize that, from a higher angle of vision, space and the dots of matter within it, as a whole, are solid physical matter from the consciousness of the cosmic astral.
This is a different thought than matter alone being physical.
Let me repeat. From a higher vision that which is physical is not what we call solid matter, or even air, or the hydrogen clouds of space, but space itself with all the little points and circles within it is that which is cosmic physical.
So how do we go beyond the boundaries of space, matter and maybe time itself to obtain an awareness in the higher cosmic planes?
The answer is you cannot do such as thing through mere individual effort. The Molecular Relationship eventually leads us to the principle of identification. Through this process we learn to identify with life which resides outside of the cosmic physical and move up to the cosmic astral."
